This one is admittedly surreal and borders on nightmarish--like a landscape gone horribly wrong.
But this is what happens when something is forcibly transplanted from its "place"--its home, its element or habitat--and tries to live in an environment or in a way for which it was not meant and is not equipped.
This is admittedly ugly. But it is not ugly for the sake of ugly or ugly railing against beauty (all too common in art these days). It is ugly in the service of truth, portraying something in the abstract that would be even harder to look at otherwise. (And, yes, this is a sofa that's been left outside to rot.)
May we all, instead, both find... and flourish in... our true home.
