This accidental work of art feels like a mixed-media collage. Old and new, paint and pipe, metal and plastic and brick and stone--lots of contrasts held together by the recurring rectangles and right angles. And it's fairly well color coordinated, too. (I also like the way the door itself seems almost to be painted onto the brick wall of the alley.)
After I took this, I made inquiries about the building. It had been empty for at least fifteen years. So these two had been waiting for a very long time indeed.
My wife had made the cross out of a Palm Sunday leaf and then put it in the candle holder for safe-keeping. In the early morning light, the composition and symbolism caught my eye, and I had to grab the camera.
